Egypt Budget Calculator
This Egypt budget calculator will allow you to approach your real budget as closely as possible by using the many options provided. I tried to make it as flexible as possible by providing many options. All costs are based on what we spent during our trip to Egypt in September 2017.
Before diving into your own budget, I will first give some general information about how much we spent as a couple traveling through Egypt. If you don’t don’t have a significant other, or you do but but you’ll leave her/him at home: please use the button below to transform the information on the page to be relevant for solo travelers. I’ve tried to sensibly recalculate the costs. For example: if you go to dinner you will probably spend half of what you would spend as a couple. However taking a cab does not get cheaper if you are alone, since the price depends on where you go.
How will you travel?
Average costs in Egypt
The tables below should give you a first idea on how much you will spend as a couple traveling through Egypt. These overviews are based on our exact spending when traveling for three weeks through this wonderful country in September 2017. This means we went in low season, since high season starts around mid-October, when the country cools down a bit.
Important note: EGP (Egyptian Pound) and LE (Lire Egyptien) are two names and symbols for the same currency (this may be obvious for most of you but not for me initialy).
Cost per day in each place we visited
The table below is based on following categories for both of us: food, transport, scams and lodging. If we stayed somewhere based on points/miles (see our stories) I replaced it with the cost of an alternative we would have taken without them. It does not include however the cost to get there and away or extras like souvenirs or alcoholic refreshments (which are expensive). You will have those options below. Click of the name of the location to see our experiences
Place | Cost/Day (and Night) (EGP/LE) |
---|---|
Alexandria | £ 730380 |
Aswan | £ 1320680 |
Cairo | £ 800520 |
Dahab | £ 860430 |
Luxor | £ 615320 |
Sharm El Sheikh | £ 1270650 |
Siwa | £ 815410 |
This means that you spend an average of £ 915480 each day for both of you!
Cost per day per category
The table below is based on what we spent for both of us for each category. Each category name speaks for itself, again not including cost to get to and from a place. Other includes entry visa costs and costs like charges to withdraw money.
Categories | Per Day (EGP/LE) |
---|---|
Transport | £ 7868 |
Food | £ 370190 |
Sight | £ 90 |
Souvenir | £ 7035 |
Alcohol | £ 7060 |
Scam | £ 105 |
Sight – Student | £ 50 |
Lodging | £ 410205 |
Diving | £ 10050 |
Other | £ 10070 |
Let’s calculate what you have to save up!
You can first fill in how many days you will spend in each destination. Once you decided to spend at least one day in a destination, you can pick what you want to visit there and it will add the admission price and transport if needed. Next you can choose whether you want to have some drinks now and then. Or if you want to go dive: where and how many times. I only included options we actually did ourselves or know the price of for sure. Since we did manage to get some nights for free, using points and miles. I based the price for one night on the alternative we would have picked otherwise.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Although these prices are based on our actual budget, the result will still be an approximation. Prices will always depend on your bargaining skills. However this is about as close as you will get to the actual cost of your trip.
